Tail Spring

Post by Jackal »

Page 24 shows the attach of the tail spring but shows very little about the spring itself except it is comprised of 3 leafs (or is that leaves). Does anyone have any info of what springs, dimensions, sources they used and of any success or failure, too stiff, too weak, etc. resulting from this.

And the tailwheel itself? Any sources/results of success regarding that?

Thanks

Most springs are either 1 1/4 or 1 1/2. I think mine are 1 1/2. My original springs were bent at a local spring shop. When I redid mine about ten years ago, I bought straight stock from ACS, bent them myself and then heated them and dipped them in oil. I think some folks use a store bought spring set for a Champ or Cub.

With my hard rubber Lang tail wheel, I used a store bought Aeronca spring.
